Litugical Music Ministry

Whether it’s celebrating Mass in the Parish, or entering into opportunities for personal devotions and song, music and liturgical ministry help to develop a deep and varied prayer life among all the extended community at Parish Our Lady of the Snows.
Liturgical musicians have responded to that call. They have acknowledged that God has blessed them with musical talent. They have cultivated and honed that talent through years of education and practice. Moreover, these individuals have placed their gifts at the service of God and the Church by choosing to minister as liturgical musicians.
Only one who knows God can love God, and only one who loves God can truly serve God. This is the case for those in liturgical music ministry, who spend hours, days, weeks, months not only in planning and rehearsing, but also in meeting with parishioners to minister to them in the heights of joy and the depths of grief.
Among the many signs and symbols used by the Church to celebrate its faith, music is of preeminent importance. As sacred song is united to words it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn liturgy. Yet the function of music is ministerial; it must serve and never dominate. The quality of joy and enthusiasm which music adds to community worship cannot be gained in any other way. It imparts a sense of unity and sets the appropriate tone for a particular celebration. The Church’s liturgy is inherently musical; thus, music is a necessarily normal dimension of every experience of communal worship. In the liturgy, however, music is an art placed at the service of communal prayer.
